Children with Special Educational Needs

All children receive a curriculum which matches academic work with their ability. This is particularly important for children with special educational needs. Children identified as having special needs receive extra support as appropriate, this may be within class, in small groups, or individual support. We work with a wide range of agencies who can offer specialist advice, or sometimes additional support.

We recognise that some more able children also have a special need and we aim to provide a challenging, stimulating curriculum and are able to offer some additional opportunities including workshops with other schools.

If you have concerns regarding your child’s needs please feel welcome to make an appointment to see the Headteacher before your child joins our school. A copy of our Special Needs Policy is available, upon request, at the school office.

Children with Disabilities

The school complies with the regulations of the SEN and Disability Discrimination Act 1995, which defines a disabled person as someone who has

“a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.”

School will:

  • not treat disabled pupils ‘less favourably’
  • make reasonable adjustments to ensure that disabled pupils are not at a substantial disadvantage
  • ensure an accessibility plan which aims, over time, to increase access to education for disabled pupils
  • School has an Accessibility Policy, which is available, upon request, from the school office. This is updated annually.

Busy Last Week Ahead!

As we enter our last week before the summer holidays, we have lots going on including our lovely head, Mrs Swann, saying goodbye to us!  Here are some of the events:

  • Monday sees children meeting their new teachers and classmates in the afternoon.
  • Tuesday is our sponsored fun run in aid of Cancer Research where children are asked to come wearing in pink or blue clothes suitable for running.  Later that morning, Sports Awards will be presented.
  • Reading treats will be taking place for different year groups throughout the week
  • Year 6 continue to rehearse for their leavers' assembly which will be presented to parents and carers at 10am on Friday, 21st July in the hall (there will be a DVD of the performance to order).  Some of our year sixes will also be representing the school at the regional atheletics final on Thursday.
  • We are having a whole school picnic on Thursday at lunchtime to celebrate our time with Mrs Swann - don't forget packed lunches!
  • There is a special lunch on Friday, chosen by the year sixes, on their last day of primary school.

There's lots more going on besides so do keep an eye on Dojo for messages from individual teachers and for information on whole school activities.
