Year 6 Curriculum Topics

Creative Curriculum Topics

Our creative curriculum complies with the National Curriculum but encourages opportunities for children to be excited by learning. Here is an outline of the Year 6 creative curriculum:

Autumn Term: Blitz and Peaces - World War 2

This topic includes a World War 2 Day where children learn about aspects of life from WW2 and a visit from a child evacuee.
Our science topics include light and sound and in art, we study the work of Henry Moore.
In computing, we develop our own world war 2 information websites and our modern foreign language is French.
The highlight for many is a residential trip to the Pioneer Centre in October which provides personal challenge, promotes team work and promises much fun, laughter and lasting memories.

Spring Term: Out of this World – Earth and Beyond

This topic is very popular with our pupils who enjoy discovering the wonders of space and the universe.  It includes a trip to Knighton Spaceguard Centre and in Design and Technology, children have the opportunity to design, make and race a space buggy.
We also begin our SATS preparation.

Summer Term: Hogwarts and All – Transition and Change

As we prepare to end our journey through primary school, this term is packed with creativity – writing, art, music, dance and performance!
As part of the transition to secondary school, pupils spend two days at their chosen school and a day at Crucial Crew developing life skills for the future.
